With 2022 reaching the halfway mark in a few weeks, video game announcements and events have been pumping out trailers and videos in anticipation of their releases. The recently concluded summer game fest event on YouTube gave us a major glimpse of the games to come. Here’s our take on the 5 most hyped games.

GOTHAM KNIGHTS.
Announced at the 2020 DC fandome, Gotham Knights is an upcoming open-world action RPG, set in Gotham city. The game has you take over the mantle of the deceased Batman and preserve justice in the radically declining Gotham with 4 playable characters Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red hood each with special abilities, weapons, and vehicles. They take on a host of villains like the order of owls, the penguin, etc. It was originally planned to release in 2021, but it was delayed till 2022 it’s planned release for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but is only going to be made available for the next-gen consoles and PC, on October 25, 2022.

WARHAMMER 40,000: DARKTIDE.
Fans of the franchise are giddy for this upcoming FPS Action game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, being developed by Fatshark, which is set to release on 13 September 2022. First announced in 2020 and set for a 2021 release but was hit with a delay due to COVID-19. The game has you fighting off waves of AI enemies with 4 players with customizable classes, appearances, and gender. The plot follows a destiny 2-like approach, with the story being updated weekly. The game features insane weapons like a chain sword. The game promises to be a 50/50 split between melee and ranged combat. It is being released as an Xbox and PC exclusive but may land on PlayStation in the nearest future.

THE CALLISTO PROTOCOL.
Now if you saw the trailer and noticed some similarities with the classic horror survival franchise “Dead Space”, then you’re not far off the mark. The Callisto protocol is a survival horror game in development at striking distance, a studio created by the Dead Space lead ‘Glen Schofield, so it comes as no surprise that both games look very similar. It was first revealed in 2020 with a
trailer that had no actual gameplay footage and later released a gameplay trailer as well, which to the joy of fans, is very Dead Space-like with all the malformed mutants, gruesome deaths animation, and a gravity weapon. The game is set on a dead moon named Callisto, where the protagonist has to battle through guts and limbs to escape. The game is very much a solo experience and would have a long run time for players to enjoy.

WITCHFIRE.
Witchfire, as the name implies, is all about witches. It is a roguelike FPS with surprisingly no cutscenes, set in a dark fantasy-themed world. It is said to be a fast-paced challenging game with over 5 upgradable guns, lootable enemies, and a deeply creepy atmosphere. It is a single-player experience so far and the characters are non-customizable, but that should be no issue as you mostly do not see your character. It’s being developed by the astronauts, which is a 9-man development team. So much isn’t known about Witchfire and the developers are keen on keeping it quiet, but it is stated to release by the 4th quarter of 2022.

STARFIELD.
Probably one of the most hyped and anticipated games of recent times is Bethesda’s Starfield. The upcoming action RPG is a space-themed game focused on planet exploration and combat, much like No Man’s Sky. The majority of players have sparked a debate on the similarity between Starfield and no man’s sky, but there are notable differences between the games. The game has been meme’d about as “Skyrim in space” which isn’t untrue as the game is set in space and will play like any other famous Bethesda RPG and will focus more on combat and space combat drawing inspiration from games like mech warrior, much like it’s predecessor it can be played in first-or- third-person perspective. Announced in 2018 Starfield is Bethesda’s first original IP in the last 25 years. It’s scheduled to release in the first half of 2023 as an Xbox and Microsoft exclusive.
