All-round gaming giants, EA Sports, have said recently that they will be rebranding their football gaming product, EA Sports FIFA. This rebrand, comes on the back of a cessation in the rights to use the “FIFA” name and logo.
EA Sports says this change has always been in the works and with the end of their contract with FIFA, it was the perfect time to kick off this new era. FIFA is reported to have requested One billion dollars every four years per renewal of the contract, a fee which is considerably too high even for giants like EA.
But enough with the business jargons, what does this mean for the 7-9 million gamers everywhere who grew up playing this beloved gaming title? Is this the end? Will this be the last time they have to anticipate a new release from their favourite game? Thankfully, no.
Group GM of EA Sports, Cam Weber says that although the FIFA nametag will be a thing of the past, all the things the players have come to love about the game will stay the same.
What will this new era be titled? And what other changes can gamers expect?
Well, EA Sports Vice President, David Jackson, says that the new title for the football game will be EA Sports FC, and although it was only recently announced, it has been bought and patented at a much later date.
From this, you can see that there has been a plan in place should FIFA part ways with EA Sports, and you can be sure that the only way from here now is up.
As for the changes gamers can expect, asides from the name changing to EA Sprots FC, everything else will either stay the same or in usual fashion, improve every year. You still have access to 300 individual licensed partners, and more than 19,000 athletes across 700 teams, in 100 stadiums and over 30 leagues around the world.
The only other change, is ther won’t be a world cup version every four years. Not really a big loss considering you get to keep everything, for me, it’s a win-win for gamers and for EA Sports.
So, gamers and lovers of the FIFA brand game, this isn’t the end, it’s merely just the beginning. Remember, it’s in the game.
