With the rise in technology and the advancement of humankind, this question probes the mind of futuristic-thinking gamers. This is why Gamr, in partnership with other forward thinkers, came together to discuss the Topic, The future of Esports, NFTs, Game Development, and the Metaverse, at the AfricaNxt Conference.
The AfricaNxt conference, formerly known as Social Media Week, was a one-week-long conference, which was held from the 6th of February, 2023, to the 10th of February, 2023, and featured different inspiring speakers across various industries to empower minds to create innovations and solutions to problems in these industries.
Gamr’s session was held on the 9th of February at the Studio Suite of the Landmark event center. The panel featured Kunmi Adenipebi, the Cofounder/C.O.O of Gamr; Immanuel Oluwatobi, Senior Software Engineer (Web 3) at Gamr Africa; Godwin Salako, Expert Lead on Navigating Web3/ Web3 partnerships; and Dooshima Lois Anger, Game Developer, Edu Shola, a Game Developer and a 3D/2D animator moderated the session.
The session began at 6:00 pm, and the moderator, Edu Shola, introduced all the speakers and continued to the big deal of the day with Kunmi answering a question about “where he sees Esports going in the world.”
Kunmi gave remarkable points about gaming, especially on esports and the current growth of esports communities. He said that without the community actively engaging in esports and tournaments, there would be a limit to esports in Africa, and it’s important to note that the gaming community plays a significant impact in the industry.
The session was very interactive as Edu Shola kept engaging each panelist with questions relating to their field. The conversation specifically took a high note when Dooshima was asked about the rise in AI and the future of Game developers.
Doomshima helped us to understand that we have gotten to a point where AI can write codes to program a game, and if AI can do what game developers are paid to do, she worries about the job security of game developers as AI continues to progress.
Kunmi countered this by explaining that AI can take over existing jobs, but eventually, jobs will evolve, and new opportunities will be created for humans.
Edu Shola then asked Immanuel about the link between the Meterverse and Esports.
Immanuel explained that with the involvement of the Metaverse and NFTs in gaming and esports, it is easier for brands and gamers to make money from gaming and esports. He went further to enlighten the audience on the current value of in-game NFTs, how many are currently earning through it, and how it will soon become a thing as we see in the movies today.
Godwin, an expert in NFTs, carried on the conversation, telling the audience that branding is critical for NFTs to do so well in the Metaverse. Branding is what gets people to put a worth on an NFT. This is why celebrities can sign on a paper and sell it as an NFT for a sizable amount of real-world money. Once we start to brand ourselves, we will be able to tap into the wealth of NFTs.
Just when the audience thought the conversation was ending, the discussion took a different turn when Kunmi took the audience back to old-time movies like Terminator, Cyborg, and Matrix and how those movies were speaking about the future of the metaverse, he went further to remind the audience that the highest online artist show was on twitch with an audience of over 7 million people across the world– Travis Scott. He said the future is changing everything, just like ChatTGP is currently changing things.
The audience joined Edu in asking questions when a member of the audience asked Kunmi if he believed that Technology could take over humankind and change the careers we have now.
Kunmi and other panelists explained that there is always an off switch to every invention and that humans always have the upper hand because humanity will always be human. With different perspectives in mind, other audience members started to openly air their views with the panelists that the future is changing and people should be ready for what technology has in stock for humanity.
Edu Shola ended the session as time was gone already. Still, the conversation didn’t stop there as the audience and panelist continued the gist off the mic, with everyone coming to a notable conclusion that the Future of gaming, esports, NFTs, and metaverse will change the human perspectives and its essential to stay relevant in your field and begin to find the knowledge of what the future will look like.
In this regard, Gamr has decided that the conversation does not have to stop. The future includes us, so we have to talk about it.
Join us next Friday as we discuss; The Future of Metaverse in the World of Gaming.
